But, in an interview on Thursday night, MU head coach Shaka Smart struck an optimistic tone.

“Still TBD,” Smart said. “But we’re hopeful that he’ll be able to go.”

The Golden Eagles got back to Milwaukee around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, and Ross has been getting treatment on his left ankle since.

What is latest on Zaide Lowery’s knee injury?

MU (8-1) will be without sophomore guard Zaide Lowery against the Badgers (8-1).

Lowery suffered a knee sprain at the end of a victory over Western Carolina on Saturday. Imaging showed that he avoided major damage, and he will be evaluated again next week. He was on crutches for a few days, but was without them on the trip to Iowa State.

Marquette guard Zaide Lowery is assisted by head coach Shaka Smart, right, and a trainer after being injured during the second half their game Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Marquette beat Western Carolina 94-62.

Smart said Ross’ injury also wasn’t as bad as feared.

“Kind of – knock on wood – evaded both Zaide and Chase what could have been worse,” Smart said. “He’ll be back soon. Don’t know exactly how soon.”
