Missouri State basketball will begin its final Missouri Valley Conference slate with an early-December matchup against Indiana State at Great Southern Bank Arena.
The Bears (5-3, 0-0 MVC) will join Conference USA in 2025. The Sycamores (5-4, 0-0 MVC) enter the 7 p.m. game on a two-game winning streak, beating Iona and Tarleton State at last week’s Baha Mar Hoops multi-team event.
The Bears bounced back on Sunday at Oral Roberts from their first two-game skid after dropping their final two games at the Cayman Islands Classic, with losses to Boston College and South Dakota State. The Bears rallied in the second half to beat the Golden Eagles 72-67 behind Dez White’s 18 points.
Bears coach Cuonzo Martin’s team will only play one early Valley game when others in the league will play two. Their second MVC contest is on Dec. 29 in Evansville.

Indiana State basketball is completely different than last year’s team
Don’t expect to recognize any names from last year’s great Indiana State team that was ranked at one point late in the year. The Sycamores have an overhauled roster after coach Josh Schertz left for the Saint Louis job and brought a handful of his players with him, including the goggled-fan-favorite Robbie Avila.
Indiana State is now led by coach Matthew Graves, who was on the Sycamores’ staff last year. His leading scorer is Samage Teel, a 6-foot-2 transfer from Presbyterian who averages 16.6 points. He’s a 36.4% shooter from deep and 53.5% from the field.
No other Sycamore averages in double figures, but four average between 9.4 and 9.9 points. The team is shooting 48.3% from the field and has made 100 of 278 shots from 3-point range in nine games, ranking 12th in the country in makes.
Indiana State is among the worst in the nation in turnovers and turnover margin. The Sycamores are average on the boards and allow the most points in the Valley.
