Auburn out, Alabama basketball still in for nation’s No. 1 recruit AJ Dybantsa

Alabama basketball is still in the running for the nation’s No. 1 basketball recruit AJ Dybantsa.

The blue-chip small forward out of Utah Prep was previously also considering the likes of Auburn and Kansas State, but Alabama (6-2), North Carolina, Kansas and BYU are Dybantsa’s final four, per On3’s Joe Tipton.

In April, coach Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide were among the first to offer Dybantsa, who told ESPN100 recruiting director Paul Biancardi last month he was speeding up his recruiting timeline and moving up his commitment.

Time will tell how the outcome of Wednesday’s SEC/ACC Challenge game between No. 12 Alabama and the No. 22 Tar Heels (4-3) impacts Dybantsa’s final decision.

Dybantsa had originally planned on announcing his commitment in February, but has since decided that his decision will “probably” come in December. The 17 year-old was also originally a member of the 2026 recruiting class before reclassifying last October.

Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class currently features three four-star signees in small forward Amari Allen, power forward London Jemison, along with guard Davion Hannah.
