Recap: FSU basketball outscored in second half in loss to LSU during ACC/SEC Challenge

Florida State basketball (7-2) didn’t finish the way it started, resulting in a defeat. FSU fell to LSU, 85-75, on Tuesday night during the ACC/SEC Challenge at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

FSU’s four-game winning streak was snapped, dropping to 7-2 on the season. LSU improved to 7-1. FSU is 0-2 against SEC opponents this year.

After leading 35-32 at the half, the Seminoles were outscored 53-40. LSU took full control after the first eight points in less than two minutes in the second half.

LSU was shooting 57.1 percent from the field, including making 6 of its 13 three-point shots. LSU was led by its seniors Cam Carter, who scored 26 points, and Jordan Sears, who dropped 21 points.

Malique Ewin has a career night against LSU

The Seminoles had four players reach double figures, but the standout of the night was their big man, Malique Ewn.

Ewin has been ascending as a second-option in scoring and recorded his first career double-double with a career-high 17 points and 17 boards.

His 50 percent shooting percentage played a part in FSU beating LSU in the paint with 19 second-chance points over LSU.

Jamir Watkins struggled with his shooting, making only 6 of 19 shots, but he still finished the night with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.

Chandler Jackson added 12 points and three assists. Jerry Deng came off the bench and knocked down three of his five 3-pointers, finishing the night with 11 points.

Rough night for ACC teams

Across the league, the ACC only had one team that defeated an SEC opponent. Clemson upset No. 4 Kentucky 70-66.

After Tuesday night, the SEC is 9-1 against the ACC.
