We’re roughly a month into the Austin-area high school boys basketball season with most teams in the thick of tournament play. District 25-6A, which has nine teams, has already started its slate, while other districts won’t get underway until mid-January.
In what is already an interesting campaign for local schools on the hardwood with some schools already playing as many as 15 games and others as few as three, the Statesman looks at teams and players who have impressed so far.

These teams, both public and private, range from all over the Austin area, and the players span from sophomores to seniors and cover all spots on the floor.

Akins
The Eagles are 7-3 and may figure into the District 25-6A playoff race in late January and February. Akins has a pair of stellar guards in Coda Trevino (18.3 ppg) and Braden Terrell (13 ppg) who are both scoring well into double figures each time out.
East View
The Patriots are 8-2 and coming off an 86-82 win in double overtime over a good Rouse team. Jayden Prioleau — who is averaging 21.1 ppg — scored a school-record 43 points, including hitting seven 3-pointers, against the Raiders, with Coreyon Bright (12 points) and Cayden Hinderman-Close (11 points) also reaching double figures. East View owns wins over Dripping Springs, Liberty Hill and Austin High.
Leander
The Lions only may have played five games so far, but they’re 5-0 and defeated five respectable opponents in Vista Ridge, Bowie, Vandegrift, Georgetown and Weiss. Ryder Bradley is averaging 21 ppg and Luke Lavin has added 12 ppg to lead the way. Leander has an intriguing matchup Friday when it begins tournament play vs….
