Dec. 2—”Feast Week” usually means multi-team events and, therefore, multiple games during the week of Thanksgiving. More chances to improve a résumé — or absolutely tank it.
Illinois had just a single, high-profile holiday matchup and handled its business with a 90-77 win against No. 19 Arkansas. Pair that wire-to-wire, rather decisive victory with the fact multiple ranked teams took multiple losses last week, and the Illini should get back into the AP Top 25 when the new poll drops at noon.
A total of 21 games were lost by ranked teams last week. Six teams lost multiple games. Several of them (if not most) of those teams could fall completely out of the poll, so it won’t just be Illinois benefitting from both a big win and others’ misfortune.
My ballot this week features six new teams and almost no team in the spot in occupied last week. (Kansas in the top spot a rare exception even if I almost gave Auburn the full Maui bump). Here’s how my voting ultimately shook out:
1. Kansas
2. Auburn
3. Tennessee
4. Marquette
5. Kentucky
6. Oregon
7. Iowa State
8. Purdue
9. Alabama
10. Gonzaga
11. Wisconsin
12. Memphis
13. Duke
14. Florida
15. Oklahoma
16. Illinois
17. Cincinnati
18. Mississippi
19. BYU
20. Baylor
21. Pittsburgh
22. Texas A&M
23. Houston
24. Arizona State
25. Utah State
